Hello

My name is Looknoo Thammathorn. I’m a clinical psychologist who works with kids, teens, and their caregivers to tackle challenges like anxiety, school refusal, stress, tough friendships, and big emotions. I am also interested in the well-being and identity development of my neurodivergent clients using a neurodiversity-affirming approach. My goal is to help young people cope with their feelings, feel more confident, and thrive—both inside and outside of the therapy room.

I speak Thai and English. I spent my childhood in Thailand and completed high school at the International School of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. The first month my family moved outside of our home country, I did not think I could do it. Being in a different country, a different school system (from a Thai public school to an international curriculum), and exposed to new languages, there was a lot to adjust to. With the help of my school counselor at the time, she gave me (and my parents) permission to take it slow and enjoy each semester.

Fast forward almost 15 years, I then ventured to North America for my studies and ended up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In this not-so-straightforward path, different cultures and systems have taught me how big life changes as well as everyday encounters with stressors impact one's sense of identity and well-being-- and I continue to learn!

My Approach and Training

Thanks to my training at teaching community mental health clinics and teaching hospitals,  I have adopted a mix of evidence-based approaches like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and elements of DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) to create practical, personalized, and (hopefully) fun strategies that work in real life. I am also a PCIT-certified provider and support caregivers. I believe in a team effort where kids and caregivers leave the therapy session feeling understood and empowered.
